On a beautiful late spring afternoon, four years ago, two agents from Illinois ordered my “3-Step Insurance Leads Postcard System.” They were very much alike, these two new members both had been in the Insurance business for half a dozen years, both were excited with ambitious dream for the future.

Recently, these two men both called me about their current marketing campaign and production.

They were still very much alike. Both were happily married. Both had grown children. And both, it turned out, had continued selling annuities.

But there was a difference. One of the agents was still trying to find qualified annuity lead prospects and the other was a $250,000 + year commission IRA Rollover and  annuity producer.

What Made the Difference

Have you ever wondered, as I have, what makes the kind of difference in agent’s production? It isn’t a native intelligence or talent or dedication. It isn’t that one person wants success and the other doesn’t.

The difference lies in what each agent knows about marketing and sales and how they make use of that knowledge.

You see, one agent who bought our marketing system didn’t even test just one of our marketing strategies. He thought he would be better off buying Internet leads that didn’t work, even tried those Social Security Update and Elder Care leads that received a good response. However, he soon found out that most of these prospects expected someone to give them more Government Benefits. He even tested out a program for $2700 that had an average cost of $150 per lead. Oh yes, he even tried an appointment setting company that charged his credit card for $2300 and went out of business.

The second member actually started reading and applying some of the simple but workable sales and marketing strategies found in our marketing system.

After reading our marketing material for a few hours he realized at least a dozen marketing mistakes he was making.

He realized he needed to have multiple spokes of marketing to generate the income he wanted to produce. His goal was to develop a marketing campaign that was designed to help him write at least $75,000 a week of annuity premium. He bought from our office a niche list of qualified CD, IRA Holders and Affluent widows. Then started a sequential mailing of 1,000 postcards every week and followed up with another postcard every 30 days.

In addition, he took our monthly prospect and client newsletter and mailed it out every month to not only his current clients, but also the prospects who responded to his postcard mailings. He inserted a "Tell-A-Friend" insert in every newsletter and offered a $25 gift certificate for 5 referrals. Every presentation he give he offered the newsletter with the certificate.  Some weeks he averaged 7-10 referrals per week.

Because of time and space I’ve only listed two of the six marketing spokes he is currently using in his business.
